In just a few short weeks, Lamar and I will be traveling down to Florida for Thanksgiving with my sweet family. This tradition of traveling for Thanksgiving started about seven years ago after my grandfather’s sudden passing. We decided it was time for a new Thanksgiving tradition, so every other year we switch back and forth between spending a week in the mountains or renting a house on the beach. It’s come to be one of my favorite weeks in the entire year, because it’s one of the only times my entire family is under the same roof for more than a few hours. This celebration lasts an entire week, and I can hardly wait for it to get here!
The weather at the beach in November is usually gorgeous. Sunny days, slightly cool evenings. It’s glorious. The beach we stay at is very quiet, and you have to travel at least 20 minutes to the nearest store for groceries. My plans for that week are to sleep in, drink lots of coffee (and wine), eat fresh seafood, and sit on the beach with my family. Seriously can’t wait. Do you and your family have many Thanksgiving traditions?
As the holiday gets closer, I’ve been perusing Etsy for items to take with us to make the beach house seem a little more cozy and Thanksgiving-ish. Here’s what I found:
One little thing I want to do this year is to write each family member a little note on why I’m thankful for them. I will hide it somewhere in their room or in the kitchen where they will find it as a little surprise. I think these little feather notecards will be perfect!
I want to bring a little decor with me, and I’m excited to string up some garland on the mantle (yes, there’s a fireplace!). It’s all about the details, people.
Cooking is one of my favorite parts of this special week away. I love cooking for my family, but I really want to write down all of my recipes to pull from each year instead of relying on Pinterest or crumpled pieces of paper. I eventually want my future children to have my Thankgiving week recipes so they can help me one day. I think these recipe cards are so sweet!
Another activity I plan on doing a lot: napping. I laughed out loud when I came across this “I like naps” pillow. I need it!
This gorgeous necklace would be perfect for me to wear for our family photos (another tradition!) we take every year on Thankgiving morning. I adore the dainty gold chain and the color of the gemstone. Also, my good friend Amy of Taking Steps Home made this! Talented girl right there.
My Nana’s birthday is the day after Thanksgiving, so we always do a little celebration for her. Lamar and I will venture into town and buy something special, and I think this gorgeous floral wrapping paper will be perfect to wrap it up with. Be still my floraly heart!
Candles, candles, candles. I actually already have this candle from Good Word Candles, and I plan on bringin’ it with me to the beach! The scent is so lovely.
So tell me about you and your family traditions for Thanksgiving! What are your current Etsy favorites?
