So far in my floral designing career, fall weddings are my favorite for two reasons: I don’t have to worry so much about the flowers wilting in transport (since it’s cool out), and there is so much in bloom right now! The coolness in the air is a nice change from the super hot days of summer when I would have to pray over the flowers to not wilt from the heat during transport. Yay fall!
Fall flowers are just so pretty, and I’m having so much fun playing around with them. Some of my fall favorites can also be found in other seasons, which I have noted below. If you’re planning a fall event or wedding, I hope this guide helps point you into the direction of what types of flowers are available.
1 Dried Lavender: Dried lavender lasts pretty much forever, so I have it on hand all of the time to add to bouquets and arrangements for that extra little pop of color.
2 Garden Rose: This David Austin Patience rose is probably my ultimate favorite garden rose ever. Not only is it beautiful, but it goes with every single color palette. It’s white, it’s cream, it’s pink…it’s kind of all of them at once. Oh, and it smells amazing! Available year round
3 Cotton: I first used cotton in the summer, and I loved the look! I think it goes with the fall season even better, though. It’s such a neat way to add texture. Lots of southern brides ask for this as an accent in their bouquet!
4 Anemone: Everyone loves anemones, am I right? They are such a unique flower and are in season through most of the year, except the hottest months.
5 Scabiosa: This is one of my newly discovered loves! This flower, like roses, comes in many shapes, colors, and sizes. In the summer I mainly use the white ones, but fall is all about burgundy, so this almost black scabiosa has my heart!
6 Dahlia: Fall is the best season for dahlias, and for those brides that love peonies but are having a fall wedding–this is a great substitute. Dahlias come in so many different shapes and sizes. This burgundy dahlia is huge, fluffy, and the perfect focal flower. The little red one to the side of it is cute and I mostly use that kind to fill in little empty spaces.
7 Ranunculus: If flowers were my children, then the ranunculus is the favorite child. Thankfully, ranunculi are available year round, but the colors will vary from season to season. Right now, orange, white, and red are easy to find.
Now for the greenery (because, let’s face it–greenery is everything!)
8 Acasia: This is a recently discovery, and I just love the look of it. Reminds me a bit of Christmas, but used in moderation is perfect.
9 Seeded Eucalyptus: I include this green in every single order. Everyone loves it, and it makes for the best garlands!
10 Green Amaranthus: This is such a unique green, and it has a beautiful cascading look to it. You can easily find it in red as well.
I used all of these pretties this past weekend for the Maiedae Mixer! Y’all the event was beautiful, and I can’t wait to share photos. So, do you have any favorite fall flowers that are different from mine? I wanna know!
